For the really old IIc motherboards, I found the following information:
Service Notice ODR943 covers the defective serial port that appeared on the
ORIGINAL IIc. You must either be able to demonstrate the problem (i.e.
use a null-modem cable at 19,200 bps) or you must show proof-of-
purchase of a high speed modem.
Service Notice ODL660 covers the use of a Uni-Disk 3.5 with a IIc. You
have to show that you own a UniDisk 3.5 and that it doesn't work
with your IIc.
In either case, you get a free upgrade to the latest IIc motherboard.
Again, you have to be able to demonstrate that your machine can't do
whatever is covered by the service notice (seria port or 3.5"disks).
I got this info from an Apple rep in a corporate environment, but I think
the info is still applicable to the rest of us.
