The reason that small caps work better than large caps in filtering
noise is the stray inductance associated with large caps.  The lead
length to the capacitive element inside a larg cap acts like a series
inductance increasing the impedance to high frequency signals.  That is
why on good equipment you will see large electrolytic capacitors and
small bypass capacitors in parallel.
