Okay, I've finally had enough of disk swapping, especially now that I
broke down and downloaded System 6.0.1. Time to buy a hard drive.
However, having been weaned on the II-series back when a 3.5" was hot
stuff and university workstations, I'm fuzzy on the concept when applied
to my IIgs.
I do have a SCSI card in port 4, I believe -- more details upon request,
as soon as I track down the dealer who sold me his old personal system
and find out what he'd put in it. (He has had a HD attached to it
before, and has a 40MB w/software available for $129, I believe.)
What do I need to know about my card and the drives I'm looking for,
firstly -- can I shop around for PC drives the way I picked up a quality
PC modem (btw, Practical Peripherals' 14.4 Minitower and TelcomGS are
a wonderful combination, thank you, Jawaid), or am I restricted as to what
will work with it?
Are these drives expandable down the road? I'm debating whether 40MB is
big enough for later on, but right now I really don't feel like shelling
out for a gig drive, if you know what I mean. Having just added a $139
modem to a $300 computer, I have my limits on how much else I'd care to
spend on it this month. :)
And, lastly, what kind of prices should I consider fair from a private
dealer or SuperMegaMicroComputerCenterCitySuperstore?
jeff. full of dumb questions tonight, it seems.
