Help needed with Luficer's Realm

I've been trying to solve Luficer's Realm (by American Eagle
software), and I'm stuck somewhere near the beginning of the game.

I have gotten the rope, breathed the vapors, read the word,made it past
Eichman, and gotten the sunglasses.  What do I do next?

Does it have to do with the blood-soaked pit or getting past Reverend
Jim?  If it does, I can't figure it out.  Any help would be
appreciated.
