Hmm, this is just an offhanded guess, but when your HD boots up it will load
the contents of blocks 0 and 1 into memory starting at 00/0800 and onward.
It will then execute the code starting at 801 <location 800 should contain
the value 01 to indicate a bootable disk>.
If your block 0 on your HD got botched for some reason it might cause a crash,
however your directory information and the disk contents would still be intact.
I would suggest trying to use a block editor to copy the contents of block 0
off of a working disk onto your HD.
