No, it will not work.  Yes, it will probably fry something!

Note that the slots are different sizes!  The "normal" slots are 50
pins.  The IIgs memory expansion slot is 44 pins.  The IIe auxiliary
slot is 60 pins.

NEVER put a card in any slot except the one it was designed to be used
in.  Also be careful you have cards around the right way - generally
with the component side to the right of the computer, except for the
IIgs memory expansion slot.  (Some cards may have their components on
the opposite or both sides, just to confuse you, so check the
documentation that came with the card, or ask on comp.sys.apple2 if
you have any doubt about which way around the card should go).
