HP DeskJet 500C

I just purchased a DeskJet 500C & would like to know if anyone has used
the parallel port with a IIGS and the Harmonie drivers.

I have an old generic parallel card and cable that I used for a Gemini 
Star 10 printer years ago.  Can I use this card/cable for the parallel 
port on the 500C, or will I damage something?

Yes, I have a serial cable & it works well, but I have heard there are
benefits to using the parallel port instead.

I am also having trouble with the colors AWGS 1.1 displays vs. what is
printed.  What is displayed as red gets printed in a very dark green, or
a composite black (it is hard to tell).
