Re: icon and file types question
J L. Walters (bird@nwsrs.nw.att.com) screamed from comp.sys.apple2:
[chop]
: Somewhat of an update. I have the updated Apple File Type notes which
: does not contain information about every file type, only those that
: have changed, however, for file type $42 it says that the Ftype.Apple
: has an entry for filetypes and the flagword has
: a bit (15) that, if set, causes a match between this filetype and ANY
: aux type.
[...]
: 1. Why do TrueType fonts show up as "normal" fonts if the Font
: Factory GS icon file is loaded?
Because of the above, icons will work for a filetype and any
auxtype, if $0000 is specified.
: 2. If my analysis above is correct, how do we get an Apple
: generated Ftype.Apple that corrects the problem?
Well, it's not exactly a problem. It's there so when your, say, source code
file $B0 has an auxtype of various numbers, and you don't have a _custom_
icon for that specific auxtype, that it still comes up with the standard
source code icon instead of the drab blank document icon.
Of course, it doesn't help when people like the FTA suddenly decide to
define their music wave files as $F9,$0220 when $F9s are GS/OS documents.
:/
However, I can't say how to "fix" it if you want to keep the Font Factory
icon other than making a custom icon for TrueTypes.
