hardware handshaking cable

hellos there!  we bought the Alltech hardware handshaking cable a little while 
ago and stuck it in our gs and supra fax modem and it didnt work:(  then my pop
decided that the pinouts were wrong and rewired it himself.  that didnt help at
all.  does anyone have the hardware handshaking cable that is from alltech and 
works?  what are the pinouts for it?  what configurations have you in your gs?
what programs are you using(proterm 3.1?)
what happens is that after i dl some thing(it doesnt matter what size it is) 
sometimes our side decides to drop carrier(or whatever its called).  Someone 
suggested i get this cable and then the rest is explained already!  anyone else
have this problem?  how did you solve it?  how many ounces are in a pound???
