RGB Monitor Problem

I need some help.  My friend just got a modem for his gs.  We were working out
the bugs in init strings to communicate and I had to go with the wife.  I
called him back a few hours later and when he turned his system back on.  The
monitor was totally orange.  It seems as though his system is operating
correctly (drive access, lights, etc) but the monitor is orange.  First I
thought it was somehow related to the control panel and his color settings. 
After shutting off the gs his monitor still had an orange line on the top of
the monitor ... that made me think the monitor was bonkers.  He cannot see
anything but orange onscreen.  Is there anything ANYONE has experinced like
this?  Is there a simple fix?  Does he need a new monitor?  Please help!
