Need opinions on what MAC to buy....

Hello there,

	I am about to buy a macintosh computer and I would like to ask you guys
about your opininons. What I am interested in doing are the following with the
mac:

1. Do Spreadsheet calculations and plotting.
2. Word Processing.
3. Connecting via modem to an online service.
4. Run a software program that sends fax.
5. Probably using a cd-rom that has an encyclopedia.

	I really do not need much power but on the other hand I would like to
have enough speed so that I can do the above. Also, I would prefer to get a
machine that it could upgraded in the future (1-2 years later). I would like to
have a list that tells me about prises and features of the different available
systems that apple is marketing. Where is the best source of information?
If somebody can give a brief outline that would be great.

	Some additional questions:

-Is the power PC running system 7? i.e. will it be able to run all mac
programs?
-Are there any discounts, or special offers for macs right now?
-Is there any FAQ list where something that I am looking for is listed?
