Problems: ZIP //e
I'm running control software Version 2.0, it talks about 4Mhz speed
my box says 8Mhz. I don't know if there's a software upgrade or if I've
been sold a 'fake'. (it's faster in any case) I could also use
the current number to ZipTechnologies, I hear they're still around.
The system, and actual problem are outlined below...
I just got a Zip 8000 (8 Mhz)
I'm having all sorts of problems
I'm running
Slots 1&3 = empty
2 = Super Serial Card
Aux = RamWorks 2
4 = Apple Mouse
5 = ThunderClock Plus
6 = DuoDisk controller
7 = Profile Controller
150 ns RAM on mainboard (changed from 24ns? due to errors, from old XT)
I'm accelerating slots 2, 3 & 7
profile seems to work fine accelerated
I run DAVEX as main shell, it seems to run well in any configuration
HOWEVER. Basic.system, and a few programs fail intermittently
I changed the RAM, so it doesn't seem to be a slow RAM problem but it may be
things work fairly well with ProDOS 1.x almost ALL programs work without
problems... HOWEVER with ProDOS 2.0.3 I have to turn 'Language Card Caching'
OFF... I'm not sure what that does...and I preffer to use the newest
systen if possible... With Caching on, and 2.0.3 disk access don't
work and the system functions erratically.. with 1.9 and Caching on
the system works mediocrely and crashes intermittenly. Is there much of
a speed loss via not using the cache?
If I have to replace the RAM to even faster ones... is there
any way to turn off 'downshift' on memory access and put
very fast RAM in there and thus run at the full speed of the ZIP chip
