I have this exact same problem on one of my IIgs's.  The only difference in
configuration is the Apple SCSI card is Rev. C, not HS, and the computer has
8.25 Meg RAM.  I'm certain this is a problem with the Quantum ProDrive 40.
Have you tried reformatting the drive (low level)?  I haven't tried that,
yet, but it's on my "to do" list...

I've never had this type of problem with my RamFASTs, but then I've never
had the old 40 Meg Quantum on those...
