HP says that a toner cartridge should last about 3,000 copies. However, I
don't think I've ever gotten more than about 2,100 pages out of one. And,
for the most part, I'm just printing text.

Once you start getting large blank areas on a page, it's time to get a new
cartridge. I've found that rocking the cartridge only seems to get me a few
more decent copies.

Shop around for the best price for toner cartidges. I've seen them going for
as much as full retail price (nearly $100), with a mid-range of about $80,
but available by mail order for $60.
