OK, for all who have asked this question in recent weeks, here is what
you do. If you are downloading the System 6.0.1 disks, I will assume you
are working with a GS. I will also assume that it is a ROM 1 with at
least 1 meg of extra memory. (If you don't have at least that much, you
can't run System 6.0.1 anyway, so what's the point.) If you have a ROM
3, or more extra memory, it gets even easier. If you have a HD or FDHD,
you don't need this info.
1. Get into the Control Panel and set up a RAMDisk big enough to
hold your file. You can even go on the safe side and make it a full meg.
2. Reboot so the change takes effect.
3. Run ProTerm off of your 800k 3.5 drive, or even a 5.25. Remember, this
is an 8-bit program designed to run on 128k machines. Even with a 1 meg
RAMDisk, this still leave you with 256k, which is plenty.
4. Download the file to your RAMDisk (takes about an hour at 2400) and
un-BINSCII it from there. If you only have one 3.5 drive, you could run
BINSCII from a 5.25 or even from the RAMDisk. You then end up with a
.shk file on your 3.5 that is about 500-600k in size.
5. If you only have one 3.5 drive, then delete the downloaded file
from the RAMDisk and replace it with the .shk file.
6. Run ShrinkIt-GS (from RAMDisk or 5.25 if you only have one 3.5)
and unshrink the thing to your 800k disk.
Hope this helps. If you have more detailed question, email me.
