According to the //c Reference Manual (2nd ed) the various models of the //c
support different numbers of Smartport devices:

Original:	2x 5.25, no Smartport	Boot from S6,D1
32k & Memx:	2x 5.25, 3 x Smartport	Boot from S6,D1 or S5,D1
//c+:		2x 5.25, 4x Smartport	Boot from S6,D1 or S5,D1 or S5,D2

According to the section on assignment of unit numbers, the slot 5 Smartport
supports up to unit #6; however, due to power supply limitations, #4 is the
highest number that should be used.

32k: 1 internal 5.25. Supports one ext Unidisk 3.5 and/or one ext 5.25.

Memx: 1 internal 5.25. Supports up to 3 Unidisk 3.5 and one ext 5.25 (max 3
	external drives).

//c+:1 internal 3.5. Supports up to 1 ext Apple 3.5, 2 ext 5.25 or 3 Unidisk 3.5
	(max 3 external drives).

All this is a little contradictory. Why can the 32k //c only support 1 3.5?

>5.25" drive.  But that's 3 devices.  Can't you have four?  (s6,d1 s6,d2
>s5,d1 s5,d2)? Thanks again, for the info.

You should always be able to have a total of 2 5.25" drives (S6 D1&2).
The Smartport devices would number 1,2,3 [,4 [5,6]] depending on the model
and which part of the manual you believe. They would appear as S5 D1&2, S2 D1&2
and then P8 v2.x would map any remainder to either slot 4 (on the 32k //c) or
slot 1 on the Memx or //c+.

So it is possible for a harddisk to appear as at least 3 smartport devices
giving 96MB of storage. If the 6 units mentioned is true then 100MB would work
as well.
