Short answer: For under $400 you should be able to find a DeskJet 500 or
something in the 500 series. All will work with AW and all give quite
good output. Before you buy, check the kind of ports on the printer. I
believe the DJ 500 has serial and parallel ports, but later models have
only parallel. Your A2 will work with either, but serial is a bit more
plug and play with an Apple. Parallel is faster, requies a parallel card
(Grappler recommended because well supported).
LaserJet IIp or compatible will give better output but costs more. Same
advice about kinds of ports applies. Will work well with AW (define
custom printer or some emulate Epsons supported by AW), not sure about
PublishIt (I think PublishIt will only give 72 dpi output to
other-than-Postscript printers). Will work find with most 8-bit programs
that output straight ASCII text.
