finder problem... need help!

I had some trouble with my GS, used my backup program to restore, but I am
having a problem.
 
When I boot off my hard drive, I get the error message "Finder requires System
6.0.1
... and at least 300K memory." When I then press return, the computer crashes
at a plain black screen.
 
I have pretty well eliminated the possibility of a bad memory card, plus I have
plenty of memory (5.25 megs). The computer will boot properly off of a 3.5
drive.
 
Any ideas what file might be corrupted?
 
I realize you guys are busy, but would really appreciate any ideas.
