I'd have to dispute this slightly. The Macintosh is "The Apple Macintosh",
where the word "Apple" actually represents the COMPANY, not the computer
brand name. It's the same as "IBM PC" or "IBM AT". In that respect, the
Mac is an Apple computer just like the AT is an IBM computer. The Apple ][
is also an Apple computer, in the same sense. Now, "Apple ][" is a BRAND
name written on the computer (like the "Macintosh" brand), and all of the
various incarnations (//e, gs, //c, etc) are all part of the "Apple ]["
brand line (not necessarily the "Apple" brand line, since there are major
differences in the "Apple ///" and the "Apple I" (if you want to call it
that)). I dunno, if you talked to Apple, they'd probably say the model/brand
name is just the ][, //e, //gs, ///, Macintosh, etc. Thus they're all
"Apple something" computers.

As for this statement, I'd have to say that it's an example of the prejudice
developed in the "abandoned" Apple ][ community which now likes to refer to
Apple as "Mac Inc."! However, I must admit that all Apple ][ series computers
have the label "Apple xxx" on them where all macs (that I know of) only say
"Macintosh xxx" and have the Apple logo.
