Since I'm extremely interested in storing and preserving all my
ancient software...
I'm considering modifying my FastBoot program for ProDOS into a DOS
3.3 Launcher launcher. It'd show you all the $f1-$f4 files on the
disk and let you choose one, with all the regular scrolling/ disk
switching crud. Whereupon DOS Launcher would be invoked with the
file. This lets you use most of the 3.5" disk for images. FastLaunch
+ DOS Launcher would be about 40 blocks of disk space total, plus of
course ProDOS. This way you can just boot and go, or insert the disk
and go, if, like me, you don't want to go near the Finder.
Also, I've noticed that the disk images are often very compressible -
I'm considering allowing a simple LZ (for very fast unpacking) option,
so you can pack the images, then have FastLaunch automatically unpack
them to /RAM5 or hard disk (or whatever fast storage you have), then
call DOS Launcher.
Any interest?
