You're right: I have got TONS of e-mail on this question!  It seems I learn
something new every day...

To me the most surprising thing about the Apple II (from what I have read)
is the bulk of different functions and applications still usable in
practice 18 years after the architecture was created, which as you know in
computing terms is a very long time.
