Workstation Card and local printer

I have a IIe with an Apple II Workstation Card installed in slot
1.  I used to have my IIgs and IIe and IWII networked to share
the IWII.  I tried to connect my IWII using the standard din-8
cable directly to the serial port of the Workstation Card and
set the IWII DIP switches and chooser appropriately.  But, I
couldn't get anything to print out of the printer.

When I connected the IWII directly to the IIgs w/ the same cable
it worked fine.  Is there a special cable for hooking up an
IWII to the Workstation card or does it require special software
to print out this way?
