Please help: Apple IIe freeware for very young kids ?

Hello Apple II very active people,

The story is : The caterer for my (forecoming) wedding bought an Apple
IIe recently and asked me if software was available for his 3 years old
kid. The man is extremely helpful, the kid is very cute. I told him
people on the Internet were very helpful - and can sometimes be cute.
Could you indicate a good source of freeware and shareware for his needs ?

Other problem : I have a Mac and a PC available. I can download in
binary, but in what disk format do the programs need to be for an Apple
IIe (here I humbly display my total ignorance of this hardware). How can
I download to my Mac, put it on a disk, and send it to him in a usable
form ?

Any help will be greatly appreciated (and I will be less ignorant about
the Apple II). Please answer to my email address.
