Let's say it's easily upgradeable to 12.5 MHz. Anything beyond that
requires some soldering skill (replace a TTL) and some luck (my ZIP
refuses to work reliably with anything beyond 12MHz, 32k Cache in my GS).
Of course, even if the worst comes to the worst, a 12/32 ZIP is still
awfully nice.

I still never saw the instructions to go to 16MHz ... I know how to do
14, but beyond 14? Auri, could you clarify that?
