And the American Constitution set in motion events that freed those slaved
some 70 years later, at a cost of several hundred thousand lives
(although, to be totally correct, the freeing of the slaves was a
side-effect of a much larger struggle, the outcome of which I'm not
sure I like - i.e., the Federal government became extremely powerful).
