Need help for Family Origins

  I have been using this program (geneology database for Apple II) for 
several years.  It was written in PRODOS BASIC by Analytical Solutions &
Software (of California), but aparently is no longer supported.  I would
like to transfer the data to another program.  The export feature of 
Family Origins uses the GEDCOM 'standard' which I realize is not very 
standard.  The FO GEDCOM conversion routine outputs a file that other 
programs cannot recognize and I have tried several.  Has anyone worked on 
Family Origins to correct this problem?  Can someone tell me the necessary 
components of a GEDCOM file to make it useable by other software?  Reading 
the LDS standards didn't help me much as they list all the file components 
but do not indicate which are necessary and which are nice.
  BTW, FO runs pretty slowly until you compile it using the Beagle
Compiler.  Then it really moves along.
