It's an auxiliary keyboard, designed to generate the characters not
normally available on the Apple 2's keyboard.Also an external keypad
could be connected to it through its 9 pin? connector. Like all of the
keys on the Enhancer 2, it's completely programmable. There was a
multiple key combination that toggled between variou modes of
operation. IIRC there was a single wire mod that ran from the game i/o
socket to a pin on the board. That board actually had its own 6502
processor and ROM and EPROM on board. Through the one wire interface
it was possible to boot the enhancer 2 and download character
redefinitions key by key. I think there was a table with limited space
that contained those redefinitions.

Anyway, I no longer remember what the mapping of the aux keypad keys
was. I think there was a listing of the EPROM code in the manual. Also
there was a complete schematic for the board in the manual too, so it
might be possible to figure it out from that.

One problem with the hardware was that the flexible cable that
connected the aux keyboard to the socket tended to break. It was a
real monster to solder!
