I agree with some of the previous postings that this __could__
be due to an alignment problem.  However, even if the aligment
is ok I would EXPECT severe compatibility problems with
anything other than an Apple 3.5 drive.  The AE drive
and the AMR drives are somewhat compatible, but a generic
MAC DRIVE (which is what I believe you have) most
definately is not.  I fooled around with a bunch of
these years ago (with and without a Universal Disk
Controller card) and had only limited success.

I suggest you unload that drive for under $50 and look in
Mac BBS's for an Apple 3.5 drive.  They are around for
the $50-100 range from people upgrading to the HD
drives.  Just make sure it is an "Apple 3.5" drive
and you'll be sitting pretty.

My experience was that even when everything worked,
the disk had 1 or 2 less blocks on it and had problems
because much software assumed the standard # of blocks.
