Re: who still uses DOS 3.3 (was Apple DES program)

One reason might be that a II (that's right, no +/e/c/gs extension) with an
Applesoft firmware card can not run Prodos. Does anyone know if a II with an
Apple Language Card (16K memory with the autoboot ROM) can run Prodos? Don't
flame this...I gave someone a II with an Applesoft firmware card last year,
because they couldn't afford much and this may have given them a running start
(just add a used monitor, drive controller, and 5.25" floppy drive). It would
be nice to find out if given the right hardware it too can run Prodos?

I also have two personal reasons for not saying farewell to DOS 3.3: I still have
serious applications that run under DOS 3.3 that I still use, and while I have
had my trusty II+ for 11 years now, I still have not dug in at the assembly level
and played with DOS 3.3 (I have hacked at various parts of my machine, but the OS
has not been one of them, yet ;-)

FYI, I actively use CP/M (and soon augmented with NZ-COM),
Prodos 8 v2.1 (with ECP8 5.1), and DOS 3.3, in that order. I am looking into
getting the HyperC Opix shell fully operational (problem with the escape key
being trapped out somewhere)...

Long live the Apple II, whatever OS it is running!!
