Only if you're gonna be transferring files consisting of a single
repeated character :-) I've _never_ gotten 4:1 compression on any real
file. In fact, since I usually transfer compressed files, I don't get
any compression at all. I have a v.32bis modem (14.4Kbps) and keep my
serial port set to 19200 baud most of the time, switching to 38400
occasionally, and I don't see why you wouldn't get excellent
performance locking the serial port at 57600 baud, or even 38400. BTW,
the baud rate you're thinking of is 115.2K, not 118K...

BTW, I dunno if this would actually work or not (it kinda seems like
if it works, someone would have already done it :-), but it might be
possible to get the serial ports going at 115.2Kbaud and higher...
normally the 3.6864 MHz serial clock is divided down by 16 before
being used to drive the baud rate generator. However, you can also use
the clock as-is, although the SCC docs say it's only for synchronous
communication. But if it does really work for asynchronous stuff, the
maximum baud rate would be 921600. Think of the interrupts :-)
