1WSW lost a lot of points with GS hackers like myself when they decided to
hold all the FTA sources (Nucleus, Modulae, XMAS, Photonix) hostage instead of
freely distributing them.

Hmm.  "This is a special edition of comp.sys.apple2, FTA Held Hostage.  And
now, from a VT240 in Iowa, here's Ian".  naaaaaahhhh.

I'll agree with this 100%.  The VAMPS disks are quite unique, but you'd be
hardpressed (tm Andy) to find any evidence of even the existance of most of
the words Dr. Tom uses to describe them.  "Ninth chords and deceptive
cadence"... my marching band instructor would die laughing if he read a VAMPS
doc file (ps, he's composed and arranged several hundred pieces of published
music :)

I don't quite get why I'm being cheered here because of the odd phrasing, but
I'll back up most of what Jer's said again.  Supporting the II is all well and
good if you do it honestly.  Going on for paragraphs about things like "the
cosmic overtones of OM and HMM" gets on my nerves.  I'd like to see a Truth in
VAMPS disk:

"Hi, this is Dr. Tom.  I remixed these MODs I found, and I think they sound
pretty cool now.  Why don't you have a listen for yourself.  If you like the
disk, send me $5."  

Now isn't that better?  It certainly makes Dr. Tom's life easier, and frees up
disk space for more pictures and stuff as a bonus.

Pardon me, but this sounds like YOU are being paranoid about Joe Kohn.
Neither JK nor 1WSW 'control' people in the way that say Hillary Clinton
aspires to.  Everyone needs to settle down and stop being paranoid over
everyone else, and maybe coordinate our efforts a bit.  We don't need another
MOD player, but I'd personally pay $20 or $30 shareware for a good EDITOR.  The
list goes on and on.

Surround-sound in itself isn't terribly difficult...it'd be fairly simple
using something like SoundSmith to write tunage which would trip a Dolby
Pro-Logic decoder and create REAL surround.  (anyone wanna try this?) However,
one of the VAMPS disks as I recall made the claim that you can get the full
effect even with just a GS internal speaker.  (insert the sound of my Psych 
312 [Perception of Vision and Sound] professor snorting).
