Let me guess...are you using the Apple //c Extended Memory card? If so,
that's the problem. That card had a timing problem that showed up between
accelerators like the Zip (in my case, the RocketChip) and programs that
create SYS.DESKTOP files. I remember seeing in an old A2Central that the
fix was a change in a crystal or something on the card; Apple wouldn't do
the repair and A2C didn't provide details, saying users should contact
Chinook Technology (now defunct, alas).
