:I have been asked by a school librarian (a non-profit high school) if a
:database created on a //e under Appleworks can be converted into an IBM
:486 running Access. The data consists of about 50 diskettes which contain
:the library catalogue, so it's not really practical to re-key all of the
:data. The data is organized simply into only 5 columns of data: the
:author, title, dewey decimal number, catalogue number, and box number.

I can help you with part of the problem. In AppleWorks, create a new label
that prints 1 field to each line, and print this to a text file. Tell
AppleWorks to print with a return after each record.

Somehow convert this file to IBM format (modem, null modem connection,
crossworks, AE PC Transporter)

Most databases allow you to import files, so import the file into access,
telling it that fields are separated by returns, and that there are five
fields per record.
