I tend to prefer Davex to ECP-8, but I suppose that is personal preference.
Davex v1.23 is available, along with many enhancements, at the major ftp
sites.

I use this all the time on my //e - there are several programs of this nature.
The first, the original 8-bit Finder you mentioned, MouseDesk, which is
basically the same, but with a few more features (but slightly lacking in
user interface) and UltraLaunch IIgs, which, despite it's name, runs just
fine on an enhanced //e with 128k (as do the other 2 mentioned above).

UltraLaunch and the 8-bit finder are available on 2 or 3 of the ftp sites,
under the name gui8bit.shk or something similar.
