Yes, it's true. For simple filesharing and printer sharing, all you
need in the way of hardware is some kind of LocalTalk (tm) compatible network
box. Most people use PhoneNet connectors, which run over (surprise!) phone
wire, which is much cheaper than the official Apple Stuff. These connectors
go for as little as $15 each.
The necessary software is included with the respective System
software, though for file sharing, you'll want System 7 or 7.1 on the Mac.
You will not be able to share files between GSs without going to the Mac in
between.
