  This almost certainly has something to do with hardware flowcontrol
on your modem. Find the modem commands to turn that off. In particular, 
you want to turn off DCD handshaking (might be able to do that with
the //C System Utilities, or a modem command, but programming the modem
would be problemmatic, since ZLink hangs :)
