Filetypes and IconEdit v2.0b3
When I'm editing icon files using IconEdit version 2.0b3, I've noticed
that I get a very limited list of filetypes in the 'edit attributes'
dialog - just the 'hardware' ones, such as disks and trash, and stuff,
plus two SuperInfo types, presumably provided by the SI.NAMES file. But
when I check the FTYPES.APPLE file, it's _full_ of different ones, and
the 'info' dialog display in the finder seems to know all about them.
Where do they gone to, when I'm in IconEdit? There would seem to be
several possibilities: the SuperInfo ftypes are interfering, that the
version I have of IconEdit is buggy/old, or that System 6.0.1 doesn't
pass them on properly, or maybe I'm missing the point, somewhere. I just
can't think where, though.
Does anyone have any knowledge about exactly how the 'ftype' files work,
and suggestions about correcting this? It's not _critical_ because it
doesn't take a _huge_ effort to look up the desired hex values for any of
the filetypes and auxtypes I might need, but it would be so much _neater_
to have IconEdit do it for me. I'm slightly suspicious of IconEdit,
because the small icon editor doesn't have a handle to change the
shape/size of the small icon, but it does for the large one, and I seem
to remember that there is a version that does allow this. Am I right, &
where might it be found?
