HELP! SSC/][e trouble!

Please note: This is crossposted to c.s.a2.programmer and c.s.a2, in hopes of
hitting all of the experts. Thanks.

HELP!!!
As I have mentioned numerous times, I communicate with the Net using an Apple
Lisa 2/5 and an extraordinarily STUPID VT-100 emulator which supports only
ASCII file transfers, and those not very well. Next to the Lisa sits a
perfectly good ][e, complete with a late-model Super Serial Card. My first
assignment is to get full communications between the two computers so that I
can move data from LisaWrite to AppleWriter and vice-versa. Then, I want to
get the E up and running with the modem.

Here's the problem: The SSC is flaky. Connecting the two computers together,
SSC to Lisa's Serial-B (the async. port, for those of you who know Lisa), there
is only one configuration that works at all, and it shouldn't.
][e: Jumper to TERMINAL (or use null-modem), 8N1 format, 1200 baud
Lisa: (always expects modem or null-modem), 8N1 format, 3600 baud
This is the ONLY configuration that works. Matching baud rates doesn't work.
Running the E at 3600 and Lisa at 1200 doesn't work. And the one 'working'
configuration only allows data to go ][e-->Lisa, not the other way.
I'm not using any software yet, so that's not the problem. Just IN#2/PR#2 and
watch the Applesoft prompts appear on the Lisa.

Anybody got any ideas???
