Good guess, Ian! MIDI Surgeon converts all the standard MIDI messages
to their MIDI Synth counterparts (including tempo changes). There are
a whole bunch of other standard MIDI commands that MIDI Synth does not
use itself, although it will transmit them to other MIDI devices. MIDI
Surgeon converts them to MIDI Synth format, but also gives you the
option to remove them (as a "surgery" option).
The latest word from Chattanooga: the Jan/Feb issue of GS+ has gone to
the printer and should be mailing at the end of this week. So hang on,
Ian...the "hype" won't last much longer. ;-) And maybe I'll get back
to working on waveLAB...
In the meantime, those with ftp access may wish to check out the
pub/MIDI/SONGS directories of ftp.cs.ruu.nl and choose which songs
they want to convert when they get hold of MIDI Surgeon or its
less-hyped counterpart.
