my IIgs monitor's problem

My monitor has a problem different than any I've seen reported here and may
be unique. For a long time now, if I turn my monitor off, I have to let it
cool off for 20 minutes or so before I turn it back on. If not, I get a
bunch of distorted horizontal bars across the screen. The problem has
gotten worse recently; now if I turn the machine off and back on it happens
too. So I have to turn the whole thing off until the monitor cools off
before it will work again. What's up?
