NEED MORE DATA, PLEASE.
If you are using ProDOS data files, you can find a friend who has a 3.5" drive
on his ][e or IIgs. Then, you can simply copy the data to the 3.5" disks using
any credible ProDOS copy routine. Then, you can use Apple File Exchange on the
Centris to read in the data.
You may need to find and install one or more data translation files for AFE.
If you are working in a NON-ProDOS environment (i.e. DOS 3.3), you have a
couple of options. You can convert the data to ProDOS, then follow the advice
above. Your other option (which will work in either DOS, ProDOS, or Pascal),
is to run a null-modem cable from a serial card in the E to the serial port on
the Centris (or use real modems 8-)), and use conventional data transfer
protocol (XMODEM/YMODEM/ZMODEM/KERMIT/ASCII/etc) to transfer the data. Of
course, once you get the information into the Centris, the real trick is
translating the data into a format your Centris applications can use.
If you are running a Centris with a ][e board, please let us know--none of my
local Macintosh dealers know whether or not this is possible. If it is, I will
certainly consider the Centris when I buy my computer! But if THAT is what
you're doing, you can connect the 5.25" disk drive to the connector on the ][e
card, and you're set.
Please note that the Apple 3.5" HD drives are capable of reading and writing
disks at 400k, 720k, 800k, and 1.44Mb, so you don't need to worry about the
storage capacity of ][e/IIgs 3.5" drives, at least not from a compatability
standpoint.
