Modem Troubles with Apple IIc
-----------------------------

The oldest version (original IIc) has an oscillator fault that prevents
modems from operating at speeds faster than 300 BAUD. Apparentl it does
work with Apple brand modems b ut its speed is 3% inaccurate and this is
beyond the allowable tolerances.

If you have the original IIc (serial no. below 5-----, with letters mixed
into the sequence), then you qualify for the FREE MOTHERBOARD UPGRADE
from the Apple dealership. It is worthwhile to get this upgrade because
they replace the board with the middle vintage board which has self-test,
Unidisk 3.5 capability, and other fine features.
