If you use an offline reader/message processor, GEnie and other pay 
services can be quite reasonable. I'm on every day and I download and 
upload messages most days and do file transfers every week or so. My 
average GEnie bill is about $30/month. It's well worth it to me, as the 
information there is more comprehensive, informed and up-to-date on Apple 
II news than anywhere else.
