Well, not necessarily. I agree that hardware should be bought according
to the needs the software will have, and not the other way round.

However, there are two important issues about chosing a certain brand:
a) Long-time support. Will this company still be around/support this
   machine in a couple of years?
b) When buying a home computer, you seldom do it for a reason. You
   do it because it's cool, or whatever, which is where the brand
   again comes in.
