I'm also not a SCSI guru, but don't you just need termination at the end 
of the SCSI chain?  If the drive in the middle of the chain is 
terminated, it may be preventing the stuff later in the chain from being 
accessed.  But, heh, what do I know?  I don't even have a HD yet.  I'm 
looking though!  Anybody have one for sale?:)
