I just turned my old ][+ on for the first time in a couple of years,
and I got exactly the same result as the original poster (the lo-res
graphics checkerboard), except that my machine beeps.

I remember substituting a custom EPROM chip with lower-case fonts way
back in college, and from what you say above, it looks like that little
bugger could be what's causing my troubles.

I'll get the ole vacuum cleaner out though, just in case.  :-)

Any other ideas?
