   that a machine in current production is being treated like that at Babbages?

Yeah, but who shops for software at retail stores anyway?
Mail order is cheaper, just as fast, always in stock, and lets you browse in
your own home - plus no worries about impulse buys (well, less worries)
and returns.  I've poked around some mall software boutiques, but never found
anything worth buying.
