Why? Modem compression is vastly overrated, IMHO. My BBS box uses a
V.32bis modem; I've locked the port at 19.2K. Most files on a V.32bis
link will transfer at somewhere between 1600 and 1700 cps, which is
well within the 1920 cps that you get with a 19.2K connect. V.FC and
V.34 might very well outrun 19.2K...but in that case, you can bump
your port rate up to 38.4K and all's well once again. Save yourself
some $$$...you don't need to run at the modem's absolute fastest DTE
rate to get peak performance 99.99% of the time.
