Ok ok, where did all this nonsense about Apple going belly up come from?
Removing the IIe from the price list is not exactly a sign of doom for Apple.
Apple's margins have taken a hit from recent price slashing, sure, but Apple
is still profitable and probably will remain so for a long time. Apple's
market share is increasing, and as the computer industry moves to platform
independence Apple has as good a shot as anybody at being a big player.
Apple also has plans to compete in various market areas besides desktop
computers that should serve it well in the future. I expect to see Apple
around for a long time.
All of this in stark contrast to Commodore by the way, which recently revealed
that it lost about $900 million dollars over the past three quarters.
Commodore will likely not be around for too much longer, which is sad and
significant to Apple II users in that MOS technologies, the creator of the
6502 processor, is part of Commodore and will go down with the ship.
