It depends which drive you are talking about.
The Macintosh Plus's external 800k drive will not work, but later Macs
normally use the Apple 3.5 Drive or SuperDrive, both of which work on
the IIgs (the SuperDrive can only access 400k/800k disks unless you
get the Apple II 3.5 Disk Controller card).
Some third-party external drives work on the IIgs, but some others don't.
The Mac Plus external 800k drive can be used on a Universal Disk
Controller, but I wouldn't recommend using this combination on the IIgs.
